No More Zen Sticks

With all due respect to Buddhist masters and their Zen sticks, I no longer adhere to that point of view, or frame of reference for what is going on in my life.

Let me explain. About 15-20 years ago, things just wouldn’t go right in my life. It was a long, protracted journey of hardship and despair. Finally, I said to a (former) friend “I just realized that the Zen stick will stop hitting me when I stop wanting it to stop.”

Think about that, those of you who are familiar with the Zen stick. For those who are not, you can read up about how Zen masters have historically utilized the Zen stick.

I submit that our current human race consciousness is ready to move beyond the Zen stick. To be honest, I feel it’s quite related to self-flagellation, self-injury, autocratic authoritarian organizations who dominate, punish, control, etc. (churches, countries, etc.) Today I heard that the Pope has given priests the authority to forgive women who have had an abortion as long as they are contrite.

Oh please! That journey is between the person and their Creator (God or whatever you call Him, Her or It). I don’t need an intermediary to forgive me for something that is none of their business. That is between me and my Creator, me and my inner and outer spiritual guide(s), me and my guardian angels.

Instead of negativity, we go into The Light. We go into positivity. We ignore the negative and concentrate on the positive. When something terrible happens, or someone misbehaves to push our buttons, we don’t react.

If you’ve tried this, you know that sooner or later the person who is pushing your buttons loses interest in trying to get you to react. Of course, they might do something heinous in which case you can often document it and get the authorities involved.

Try it and see.

No more Zen sticks. People who’ve been abused and keep being abused have already been there and done that. Time to grow and move on.
